Packages – they often appear inconvenient but they are indispensable today. Without them not only the distribution of goods but also the flow of international trade would fail.

 

The packaging industry distinguishes two elements concerning the production of packages: on the one hand the package and on the other hand the packaging aid. The package is the real cover of a product. It closes or covers the goods, respectively keeps it together. Examples of it are cardboard boxes, bags, tubes and glasses. Common materials are wood, paper, plastics, cardboards, glass and metal. By packaging aid in contrast are meant materials which close the product for packing (e.g. crown cap or adhesive foil) or pad it out (e.g. foam or paperboard) in order to protect it against outer influence. Thereto belong for example dosing insets, packaging equipment, closings or padding and filling material.

 

Because of the big variety of different packaging possibilities for goods and products it is obvious that also a broad spectrum of packing machinery is necessary to produce them. From the stand-alone machine to complex packaging systems multi-functional packages are manufactured worldwide, like for example primary packaging, gift packages, secondary packaging and transport packaging. Thus, the construction, composition and right choice of the package is enormously important for a transport without losses. For the labelling and marking of packages there exists a separate machinery like printers for packaging material, marking-, coding- and labelling machinery.

 

Moreover, there exists a machinery for padding, shrink wrapping and wrapping machinery, bundling machines, tubular bag machines, packaging robots and foil packing machinery. The latter are distinguished between machinery and equipment like welding aparatus, blister packages, shrink wrapping and pallet winders. In order to produce pouch packs a welding apparatus or bag forming, filling and sealing machine is used. These are used to package chemical-technical goods or even to manufacture tubular bags (e.g. for pet food), stand-up pouches and closeable pouches. Blister package machinery produce amongst others sales packaging for self-service markets or even sterile packaging.
