If for example a package is pressed during transport the corrugation absorbs the pressure and disperses it equally to the outer cardboard layers. There are single wall corrugated board, double wall corrugated board and triple wall corrugated board types. The single wall corrugated board is the most commonly used. It consists of the outer flat sheets, the fluted paper and the inner sheets.

 

The paper of the outer sheets is characterized through high tear strength, the fluted paper however is chosen because of its stackability or its padding characteristics. When a very high stability of a corrugated board is needed  multiple wall corrugated board is used. Recycling paper is used for three quarters of the corrugated cardboard production.  Even corrugated cardboard itself is an eco-friendly product as in Germany it is recyclable to almost one hundred percent. The advantages of corrugated cardboard in the packaging industry are obvious: it convinces through light weight, versatility, low expense factor and thus presents itself as inexpensive all-rounder.
